Capoeira Angola is an African Brazilian martial art – fluid, rhythmic art, a ritual, a “game” of deceptive vulnerability, wit and grace. As a holistic art form Capoeira Angola encompasses cultural knowledge, movements, and Afro-Brazilian music supporting self-expression and self-esteem, while strengthening its practitioners’ body and mind. Participants will gain knowledge on the movements (basic and advanced), music instrumentation (Capoeira Angola instruments, such as “Berimbau”) and songs which are sung in Portuguese, and some in Yoruba languages. From African and Brazilians traditions and historical social movements of resistance, such as Black Brazilian Consciousness, which are orally conveyed from masters to students, Capoeira has given origins to
contemporary art forms such as Break Dance. This class is sponsored by the International Capoeira Angola Foundation, Seattle, founded and led by Mestre Jurandir.
Instructors: Mestre Jurandir, Contramestre Silvinho, and Treneu Caxambu.

Considered to be one of the most comprehensive martial arts taught today, students will learn some of the history and culture behind this style of martial arts. Danzan Ryu is presented as an art form, with the by-product being self-defense. This is an on-going class with both beginning and returning students. Students will experience increased self-confidence through physical and mental
